Washington & Lee Mock Trial
Washington and Lee Mock trial is a co-curricular organization. Mock Trial provides Washington and Lee undergraduate students with the opportunity to develop critical thinking and public speaking skills and an understanding of the American justice system and its practices and procedures through preparing for and engaging in trial simulations in competition with teams from other colleges and universities.
Washington and Lee fields two teams each year, both of which compete at invitational tournaments in the fall and the national tournament in the winter. Our record for last season included an honorable mention at the Tobacco Road Invitational hosted by Duke University and a first place win for our B Team at the Grand Strand tournament. We also competed at other tournaments up and down the East Coast in the invitational season. During the
national tournament , we progressed through the regional level of competition and competed in the Opening Round Championship Series.
Although team recognition is important for Mock Trial, there are also many opportunity to win individual awards for outstanding performances. Throughout the year, many of our attorneys and witnesses earned these individual awards, including at the Regional competition and Opening Round Championship Series of the national tournament.
